My Sailor Pluto costume is almost done!
I dreamt Sailor Pluto appeared much earlier in the new anime and was secretly finishing off enemies too difficult for the other soldiers to handle off-screen.
Gotta make sure those children don’t get themselves killed just a couple of episodes in.
pluto’s still a planet, m’kay?
the sailor plutos displayed excellent craftmanship
Stupid awesome shinny staffs >:<
Sailor Pluto belongs to Neoko Takeuchi
Hi! This is a complicated answer, because it’s sort of in the middle. It comes from two things:
1. When the Sailor Senshi travel into the future, King Endymion calls Sailor Pluto over and you can see that she’s surprised to hear him calling her and she blushes over it:
2. In the bonus/afterwards notes, Naoko says that she wanted to write an unrequited love for Pluto so bad:
She even says that “Pluto in Arc 2 is a bit of an adultress” and you can see her blushing there again.
3. eta: Also from that same scene, when Endymion compliments her abilities, saying she’s an excellent soldier, you can see her blushing again and saying, “King…” in a way that indicates it means a lot to her:
When combining these two things, it’s not hard canon that Setsuna was in love with Endymion, but I think it’s fairly clear that the implication of the possibility was there and it’s really easy to read that into the story. I don’t think it was necessarily “love” and it was very one-sided and I tend to view it as… Setsuna was incredibly lonely at her post, so she daydreamed a bit, she idealized the idea of him a bit, she fell in love from afar because there wasn’t much else in her life.
Not that it makes her feelings any less real, but it’s never really picked up on after that, she doesn’t really react similarly to Mamoru after she comes to the present day, so that makes me think that she had a crush on him for a long time, that she liked him for awhile, but eventually grew past it. She’s probably always a little wistful about it, but he never returned the feelings or encouraged her or had significant interaction with her.
So, if you don’t include that she was in love with him for awhile, you’re still good with canon. If you do include that she was in love with him, you’re still in line with canon, too. :)
(eta: I totally had it in mind to remember to mention that the scans are from MissDream and then blanked when actually posting this! FIXED NOW.)
Several times throughout the series, Sailor Pluto is identified as the daughter of Chronos, the deity/personification of time (not to be confused with Cronus, although they’re very frequently mixed up).
Mentioned even more frequently is the implication that…
